Junior Rugby (12-18 years)

A message from the Chairman of Junior Rugby

At SERFC we run one of the largest junior operations in the network, with over 300 girls and boys spread across the full age range from U12 to the Colts. We currently have at least two sides in each age group from U12-U16 and one team at Colts.

The girls section run the following teams – U12/14, 16 & 18 and since forming a few years again has gone from strength to strength.

When and where we train

Our junior boys age groups train every Sunday morning between the first Sunday in September and the last Sunday in April with pre-advised breaks for Christmas and Easter holidays over both our sites – our Clubhouse premises in Rugby Lane and our other ground at Priest Hill sports ground. Each age group train between 11.30am – 1pm on the following pitches:

U12s: Priest Hill Ground – Pitch 1 – 9.00am – 10.30am
U13s: Priest Hill Ground – Pitch 3
U14s: Priest Hill Ground – Pitch 2
U15s: Priest Hill Ground – Pitch 1
U16s: Clubhouse Pitch
U18s: Clubhouse – 1st XV Pitch

Some of our age groups also train midweek at the Club on the clubhouse pitch:
Tuesday – U12/U14/U15
Wednesday – Girls
Thursday – U13/U16 boys
Friday – Colts

Our Coaches
Every age group has its own coaching structure with a Head Coach, leading a team of coaches and admin / manager support. Most of our coaches will have a child in the group they are coaching and whilst many draw experience from having played the game there are also those who are new to rugby but want to get involved in some capacity. Any help is always welcome and coaches are supported through a variety of courses run by the club and the RFU. All coaches are DBS checked and Head Coaches for each group are appointed by a panel consisting of senior club officers.

Whilst many of our Junior players have progressed with us through Mini Rugby, there are plenty who were new to the game when they joined the Juniors, so don’t be put off if you haven’t played before. We operate an open door policy and welcome anyone who wants to join us.

Our Junior operation is very successful, with many of our teams wining their respective Surrey leagues last year and many players have come through our Junior ranks and gone on to representative honours. Recently our Junior Members, both boys and girls, have played at Junior international level for England.

We have plenty of U17 & U18s who play in our various Adult sides and the coaching framework is structured to make the transition from Junior to Senior rugby as smooth as possible.

Girls Section

Our Youth Girls Section is currently thriving! In fact, we’re the only club standalone club in the South East with a full compliment of Youth Girls Squads filtering into our two Ladies Teams!

Training for the girls is every Wednesday evening at Rugby Lane:

U12 & U14: 6.00 – 7.00pm
U16: 7.00 – 8.00pm
U18: 6.45 – 8.00pm

On Sundays we usually have fixtures but will otherwise be training at the Club on the Cabbage patch area( far top of the pitches above 1st XV) and each age group will train at the following times:

U12 & U14: 9.30 – 10.30am.
U16: 10.30 – 11.30am
U18: 11.30am – 1pm
