It is with great sadness that we report the passing of David ‘Lofty’ Plattern on 23rd April. He was a stalwart of S&ERFC for many years, from the Minis through to the U21s as well as being a ref and helping to organise club holiday activities. He served in the Paras for many years including several tours of duty in Northern Ireland, and played second row for the Army team on many occasions. More recently Lofty spent many years working for the Royal British Legion and raising funds. In later times he and his wife Hilary moved to Northampton. His son Toby used to play for the club from Under 6 through to the youth section. Condolences to all of the family. As and when we know we will share funeral details.
It is with enormous sadness that we have to report the untimely passing of Kevin McCarthy on Saturday 18th April. Kev was a big character and club stalwart who coached with the Juniors, served on the Committee as Chair of Events, and was responsible for introducing and organising the annual Big Bash, and also ran the bar operation for many years. He will be greatly missed and our thoughts are with his wife, Wendy and children, Teige, Connor and Amy. The funeral will take place on Friday 29th May at Randall’s Park Crematorium, Leatherhead, 12.30pm and afterwards at the club.

There was a caveat this time with a ‘Get Out of Jail Free Card’ in the form of the hideous prospect of hosting Dartfordians next Saturday in the inaugural relegation play-off. Read more…
