It is with great sadness that we have to report the death of Bill ‘Doc’ Bellenger, who passed away in the early hours of Sunday 9th February with his wife Ann and his family by his side. A prominent figure at the club for many years, Bill was always on hand to keep the playing members moving, with the help of Ron Bain, making sure the club had the best medical team outside of professional rugby. His funeral will take place on 28th March at 2.00pm, Randall’s Park Crematorium, Leatherhead, followed by the wake back at the club.
Sutton Win but Gravesend Earn Vital Points
Sutton & Epsom 33-28 Gravesend
Gravesend were the final visitors to Rugby Lane for this campaign though there are a couple of road trips for the Black & Whites before the season concludes. In November the Rectory Field crowd bore witness to yet another last gasp defeat as the Kent team lost 23-22. On that occasion it was a late Freddy Bunting penalty and heroic defence on the Sutton line that thwarted a spirited comeback. This time, with the spectre of relegation looming, Gravesend had a degree of consolation with two bonus points in a 33-28 loss.
